Business Spotlight: Torr Vale Tap, New Mills

Where heritage meets hospitality on the banks of the River Goyt.

If you’re looking for a venue that perfectly captures the spirit of the High Peak, you’d be hard-pressed to find somewhere better than Torr Vale Tap. Situated in the heart of New Mills, this vibrant bar is housed within the Grade II* listed Torr Vale Mill, one of the earliest and longest-running cotton mills of the Industrial Revolution, which operated for over 200 years.

Today, the mill’s rich industrial heritage has been beautifully preserved and repurposed. Torr Vale Tap isn’t just a pub; it’s a destination. With its understated, warm decor that respects the building's history, it offers a unique atmosphere that appeals to locals, visitors, and walkers alike.

The Perfect Pitstop

Located right at the end of the spectacular Millennium Walkway, Torr Vale Tap is the ideal place to rest your legs after exploring the Torrs gorge. The outdoor terrace is a particular highlight during the summer months, offering stunning, uninterrupted views over the River Goyt.
And yes, it is exceptionally dog-friendly. Muddy boots and four-legged friends are not just tolerated, but genuinely welcomed, making it a favourite stop-off for those enjoying the local trails.

What’s on the Menu?

The Tap prides itself on a carefully curated selection of drinks, with a strong focus on local producers. You’ll regularly find excellent craft beers from the nearby Torrside Brewing on draught, alongside a good selection of wines, cocktails, and draught cider. For those not drinking alcohol, there’s also great coffee and cake available.
While the food menu has seen some mixed reviews online regarding service times during peak periods, the bar has recently partnered with the fantastic Cheese Wheel (located right next door in the mill) to offer delicious cheese boxes to enjoy on the terrace — a perfect pairing with a local pint.

The Details

Whether you’re after a quiet midweek coffee, a post-walk pint, or a lively weekend evening, Torr Vale Tap delivers a unique High Peak experience.
