The Indian Restaurant That's Brought Central London Fine Dining Techniques to New Mills High Street |
Bukharaa on Market Street has earned a perfect 5.0 on TripAdvisor and its Dumpukht Biryani and Railway Lamb Curry are already the talk of the High Peak. |
There are Indian restaurants, and then there is Bukharaa. Since opening on Market Street in New Mills in 2024, this contemporary Indian restaurant has been quietly building a reputation as one of the most exciting places to eat in the High Peak, earning a perfect 5.0 rating on TripAdvisor and the title of the number one restaurant in New Mills.
The story behind Bukharaa begins in Romiley, where the original Bukharaa Street Zaika established itself as a firm local favourite. The New Mills outpost is the second location, and it has arrived with serious culinary ambition.
The kitchen is led by chefs with fine dining backgrounds drawn from high-end Central London restaurants, and that pedigree shows in every dish. The menu is described as "a contemporary twist on Indian cuisine", not the familiar British-Indian curry house formula, but something altogether more considered.
Signature dishes include the Dumpukht Biryani, slow-cooked using the ancient dum method in which the pot is sealed and the rice and meat steam together in their own juices; the Kolhapuri Lamb Chops, marinated in a fiery Maharashtrian spice blend; and the Railway Lamb Curry, which one reviewer described as "simply stupendous, the taste of the lamb came through and balanced by the delicately spiced flavour of the curry."
The Pani Puri, crispy hollow shells filled with spiced water, served on a little cart, have become a talking point in their own right, while the Gobi 63 (spiced cauliflower) has earned a string of 10-out-of-10 ratings.
On Monday and Wednesday evenings, Bukharaa adds live music to the mix, and a meal deal at £16.99 for a starter, main and a drink makes it one of the best-value dining experiences in the area.
Bukharaa is at 76, Market Street, New Mills, SK22 4AA.
Open Monday and Wednesday 5–10pm; Thursday–Saturday 12–2.30pm and 5–10pm; Sunday 12–2.30pm and 5–10pm. Closed Tuesday.
