The Peak District is set to host the world’s most prestigious women’s cycling race, as the full route for the Tour de France Femmes 2027 Grand Départ was officially unveiled this week.
For the first time in its history, the race will begin in the UK, with Greater Manchester hosting the opening stages before the peloton tackles the punishing climbs of the High Peak. Stage Two will see the world’s elite riders depart from Manchester city centre, sweeping through the Peak District National Park in what cycling experts are already calling one of the toughest opening stages in the race’s history.
The route will bring thousands of spectators, international media, and a significant economic boost to the High Peak. Local businesses, from cafes to accommodation providers, are already being advised to prepare for an unprecedented influx of visitors in the summer of 2027.
"This is a monumental moment for the Peak District," said a spokesperson for the local tourism board. "To have the Tour de France Femmes sweep through our valleys and over our moorlands is not just a sporting spectacle; it’s a global showcase of our landscape."
The exact roads and climbs the riders will face are still being finalised, but the inclusion of the High Peak guarantees dramatic racing and stunning television broadcasts broadcast to millions worldwide.
