HF Holidays Acquires Lee Wood Hotel - A New Chapter for an Iconic Buxton Landmark

Britain's only walking holiday co-operative, HF Holidays, has acquired the Lee Wood Hotel in Buxton, securing a permanent base in the heart of the Peak District after years of leasing properties in the area.

The 40-bed Georgian hotel, which has been owned by the same family for 70 years, represents HF Holidays' latest investment following an exceptional trading year in which the co-operative achieved a record operating surplus. The acquisition follows a ÂŁ4 million investment in its flagship Shropshire Hills property and the recent reopening of its country house in Snowdonia National Park.
Located in the historic spa town of Buxton, the Lee Wood Hotel offers excellent access to a wide variety of Peak District walking routes, alongside strong rail connections — making it ideal for the growing number of HF guests who choose to travel by public transport.
The hotel is expected to open under the HF Holidays brand in early 2027, following a light refurbishment in keeping with the company's nature-led, members club-style interior design ethos. Holiday bookings for 2027 will be launched in summer 2026, with HF Members given priority access.
As a result of the purchase, HF Holidays' lease on Peveril of the Peak near Dovedale will not be renewed when it ends in spring 2027, with holidays operating as planned until the end of 2026. All team members at Peveril of the Peak have been informed and will be supported with alternative opportunities across the HF estate.
