High Peak Pie Company Wins National Acclaim in First Year of Business

New Mills-based Sett Valley Kitchen scoops two prizes at the British Pie Awards

Sett Valley Kitchen, the High Peak-based pie company behind the “Live & Let’s Pie” brand, has achieved national recognition at the prestigious British Pie Awards, a remarkable feat for a business in its first year of independent operation.

The small team of three, based on the Cheshire/Derbyshire border, took home two awards from the ceremony in Melton Mowbray on 6th March, an event widely regarded as the national championships for pie makers.

Their Vegan Wild Mushroom & Spinach Pie secured a Silver Award, while their signature Kinder Beef & Thornsett Brewery Ale Pie earned a Bronze. This success is particularly notable given the record-breaking 1,044 pies entered into this year’s competition.

For owner Jo Orme, the awards are a significant milestone.

“I couldn’t believe it,” she said. “Our first ever entry into a national awards event and to be recognised with not one but two awards is amazing.”

This victory marks a successful transition for the business, which was established as a standalone company following the sale of the award-winning Sett Valley Café in July 2025.

The café itself had previously been named Restaurant Bar / Café of the Year 2025, and the new venture continues this legacy of quality and excellence.

The business model for Sett Valley Kitchen is focused on craftsmanship and local sourcing.

Chef Nick Robinson and new team member Nicole Sykes produce a range of handmade pies and cakes, using seasonal and locally sourced ingredients wherever possible. This commitment to quality and local provenance is at the heart of their brand.

With these national awards now under their belt, Sett Valley Kitchen is poised for growth. The company is actively seeking to expand its wholesale operations, inviting local cafés, pubs, and restaurants to add their award-winning pies to their menus.

This presents a strong opportunity for local hospitality businesses to partner with a nationally recognised, locally-based supplier.

By combining a proven track record of award-winning quality with a clear strategy for wholesale expansion, Sett Valley Kitchen is demonstrating how a small High Peak business can make a significant impact on the national stage, turning a passion for pies into a thriving and scalable enterprise.
