Bakewell Set for Major New 72-Bedroom Hotel as Operator Search Begins |
The proposed Riverside Works development could bring a significant new hospitality offering to one of the Peak District's most popular market towns. |
One of the Peak District's most popular market towns is set to gain a significant new hotel, as the search begins for an operator to run a proposed 72-bedroom development on the edge of Bakewell.
The scheme, known as Riverside Works, would see a four-storey hotel building erected on the A6 just north of the town, overlooking the River Wye. The development is part of a wider mixed-use regeneration of the Riverside site, owned by Litton Properties, which has been in planning since 2019 following the demolition of former mill buildings.
Savills has now been appointed to find a hotel operator for the scheme, with the possibility of a further nine bedrooms in the western elevation and eight additional rooms through conversion, subject to planning permission.
Tom Cunningham, UK regional director for Savills Manchester said: "This is a unique opportunity to operate the potential hotel which will form part of the redevelopment at Riverside that is already emerging as one of Derbyshire's most exciting mixed-use developments, and the hotel will be the latest addition."
Bakewell, famed for its puddings and its position at the heart of the Peak District, attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. A quality hotel of this scale would represent a significant addition to the town's tourism offer and is expected to generate considerable local employment.
