Stella's Kitchen, Eyam — The Most Extraordinary Restaurant in the Peak District

Hidden in a farmhouse conservatory in the plague village of Eyam, Stella Kisob has been serving some of the finest Afro-Caribbean food in England for years. The Hairy Bikers came. Adam Richman came. Now it's your turn.

There are restaurants, and then there is Stella's Kitchen. Tucked away in a farmhouse conservatory at Cross Low Farm on the edge of Eyam, the Peak District village famous for its extraordinary act of self-sacrifice during the 1665 plague, Stella Kisob has been quietly creating one of the most remarkable dining experiences in the north of England.

The food is Afro-Caribbean: bold, fragrant, deeply flavoured and cooked entirely from scratch using the finest locally sourced and authentic ingredients. The menu changes to reflect what is fresh and available, but you can expect dishes rooted in West African and Caribbean tradition, slow-cooked meats, vibrant stews, rice dishes layered with spice and warmth, and desserts that linger in the memory long after the meal is done.

Word has spread far beyond the High Peak. The Hairy Bikers visited and cooked with Stella on camera. Man v Food's Adam Richman made the journey to Eyam. Food critics have written about it in glowing terms. And yet Stella's Kitchen has remained, at heart, exactly what it always was, a home, a kitchen, and a welcome.

Stella now offers a full programme of dining options. Drop-in lunches, coffee and cake are available Thursday to Sunday from 10:30am to 4:30pm. On Friday and Saturday evenings from 7pm, Stella serves her authentic Afro-Caribbean buffet - booking is required, the price is £35 per person, and it is bring your own drinks. There is also a takeaway menu, a catering and corporate events service, a campsite, and a Shepherd's Hut for overnight stays.

If you have not yet visited Stella's Kitchen, make this the year you do. It is, without question, one of the Peak District's most special places.
