A Century of Service — High Peak Boys' Brigade Marks 100 Years |
The High Peak Boys' Brigade is celebrating its centenary with a reunion, exhibition and parade at Town End Methodist Church in Chapel-en-le-Frith. All former members are warmly invited. |
One of the High Peak's most enduring youth organisations is marking a remarkable milestone this spring. The High Peak Boys' Brigade, which has been shaping the lives of young men in the area for a century, is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a series of special events in Chapel-en-le-Frith.
The Boys' Brigade, founded in Glasgow in 1883 by William Alexander Smith, is one of the oldest Christian youth organisations in the world. Its mission - to advance Christ's Kingdom among boys, and to promote habits of obedience, reverence, discipline and self-respect - has remained largely unchanged across its 143-year history. The High Peak company has been part of that story for a full century.
The centenary celebrations will take place at Town End Methodist Church in Chapel-en-le-Frith and include an exhibition charting the company's history, a reunion and quiz evening on Saturday 2nd May from 6pm to 8pm, and a special Parade Service. All former members of the company are warmly encouraged to attend, whether they served last year or 60 years ago.
It is a rare and wonderful thing for a community organisation to reach its centenary. The High Peak Boys' Brigade has done so through the dedication of generations of leaders, volunteers and young people who believed in its values. This is a celebration worth attending.
